"Surprisingly Great. PC and MAC. It works and it's fast." 2009-08-27
By S. Stanley (Denver, CO USA)
I've been so disappointed by various strategies for encrypting and protecting files. I've tried and used numerous programs that create an encrypted file on a thumb drive and, once unencrypted, shows up as an entire drive with your files in it. Suffice to say, in one way or another, these eventually failed me.

This device, the Cruzer Enterprize, is different. It is a hardware based solution that will (likely) be less susceptible to the software type approach. So, I wanted to try it and I wanted it to work.

Also, I am transitioning from PC to MAC. (And, while a power-user on a PC, I've just gotten so sick of one thing after another not working right one day when they worked fine the prior day.) So, I'm going to be using both platforms for quite awhile and may eventually dump the PC side of things.

This device had to work on both for me to be able to use it the way I intend to use it. And, it does. On the MAC, it needs to install a program on the computer whereas on a PC it just temporarily loads what it needs each time you stick it in. Either way, it works and you can get at and use your filed across platform. (Note: On the MAC, it popped up a window that made me think it was about to install the program, but it didn't. I had to go into the directory and double click on the pkg file to install what it needs to work on the MAC.)

Lastly, given that 256 bit encryption is going on, it's surprisingly fast. I'm not using a stop watch but I could write about 2GBs to it in around 10-15 minutes. I'm impressed by this for 2GBs, encrypted too boot.

Solid device doing what it's advertised to do.
